The cold outdoors and warm in-doors of Winter create a drab environment that drains the moisture from your skin, leaving it dry and flakey. While there are a range of skincare products out there promising to resolve this issue, there are a number of household solutions that can also provide similar results.
1. Wash yourself with milk
If your skin is ever feeling itchy and dry, consider dipping a towel in milk and applying it to affected areas for 5 minutes at a time. Milk is known for its anti-itching properties which soothes skins and breaks the itch cycle. Additionally, milk is rich in lactic acid which acts as an exfoliate and reduces acne breakouts.
2. Coat yourself with olive oil
Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and healthy fats that are effective in soothing irritated skin. To take advantage of olive oils excellent antioxidizing qualities, simply rub olive oil on your hands, legs and other areas with dry skin 30 minutes before showering. Shower and then apply a light moisturiser for a radiant glow.
3. Lather yourself in honey
Honey is one of nature’s most curative products, boasting antioxidant, antimicrobial and humectant properties. These qualities lock moisture within your skin while also repairing damaged skin cells. However not any old honey from a supermarket will do, raw unfiltered honey such as Manuka honey is the way to go. Simply rub honey over your body and leave it on for 5-10 minutes for a shower and enjoy well-moisturised skin.
4. Touch up with coconut oil
Coconut oil is excellent for touching up dry skin due to its strong content of fatty acids. This makes it an ideal home remedy for moisturising dry skin. Additionally, coconut oil can end breakouts and acne at the source because of its antibacterial and antifungal nature. To take advantage of these benefits simply apply warm coconut oil before you go to sleep and wash it off in the morning.
